I cannot stress how important taking care of your beloved dog's teeth is. We treat them like members of the family, but neglect there oral hygiene. You need to maintain their teeth and gums in the same manner you would do your own, with loving care. Just as you schedule a trip to the dentist; you also need to schedule your dog a visit to the Vet for a professional cleaning, but if you want to prolong the added expense of getting your dogs teeth clean, (which eventually will have to do). You will need to clean your dog's teeth regularly at least twice a week, to avoid Tartar and Plaque build-up. nnOnce that happens then you will have no choice, but to take your dog to the vet and get their teeth professionally cleaned. The dog will have to be put under general Anesthesia to clean their teeth, and there could be harmful side effects especially for older dogs. Do you really wanted to put your smooch through that? Purchase dog tooth paste that is natural and safe for your dog. Make sure not to give them human tooth paste; they can't spit it out and it's not meant to be eating, which can cause problems when they swallow it; also a tooth brush will be needed. They may not like getting that teeth brush, but they will thank you later. There are also different favors that you can try out on your dog, to see what favor they like most, to make it more bearable for them.nnThe main reason for cleaning dog teeth, aside from preventing gum disease, cavities and prolonging the life of their teeth. It poses a great health risk to your dog. Just as we can get and infection from not taking proper care of our teeth so can your dog; remember they can't tell you something is not right. nnPlaque build-up can cause there gums to bleed and become tender, preventing them from eating and getting the nourishment they need. If that bacteria that has begun to form on their teeth makes its way to your dogs blood stream. That's when things really get serious; the products that are used to get rid of the bacteria can produce harm to their organs leading to other health problems, such as kidney failure; and in extreme cases the infection can cause death, all this from not cleaning your dog teeth.nnThere are also doggie treats you can give your dog in between cleanings, which promotes healthy teeth and gums. It would be much easier to clean your dog's teeth then to have to put them through such an ordeal. nnIt may seem like a hassle trying to brush your dogs' teeth, it will become much easier once you get the technique right and your dog gets use to getting its teeth clean. Brush in a circular motion making sure to go up where the teeth meet the gums and paying special attention to the back teeth where the risk is greater. When you take care of your dog's teeth, what you will be left with is a happy, healthy dog.
